Kaweco is often mistaken for a Japanese brand – not so! – it is 100% German. Originally established in 1899 in Heidelberg (also home of Lamy), the company was eventually renamed Kaweco as its owners namesake, Henrich Koch and Rudolph Weber – KOch, WEber and COmpany. Here pictured, an advertisement from 1911 which declares, ‘stocked in every best stationery store’ – still the case! 

This extra-compact model, the Liliput – named for the island nation of miniature humans visited in Gulliver’s Travels (Jonathan Swift, 1726) – was first issued in 1910, but went through several changes before being re-released in 2011. It is the smallest Kaweco model available; indeed, when closed, this fountain pen is a mere 9.6cm, with a diameter of only 0.95cm! It remains one of the smallest models, across brands, to take the international short standard ink cartridge. The Liliput is available in five finishes: brass (in smooth or wavy), copper, aluminium (in silver or black), stainless steel, and fireblue torched stainless steel. 

The newest addition to the Liliput family, this model certainly makes a statement: each pen is torched individually, resulting in a unique finish every time.
